HOW DID IT START
Jersey Julie, from New Jersey USA, is an American artist of great talent that knocks you off your feet in every performance & leaves no one disappointed. Julie is a wonderful & charismatic singer, sax player, dancer who has an enormous positive & uplifting energy as she performs & becomes the music; currently with her extremely talented band formed in 2010.
Over the past 15 years, she has played for many festivals & theaters across the USA & Europe (Chicago Blues Festival, Freedom Creek Festival in Alabama, Blues To Bop Festival in Lugano in Switzerland, Cognac Blues Passion, Cahors Blues Festival in France, Jazz & Blues Rallye Luxembourg…) She “puts the fire on the stage” each and every time she steps on (as written by several journals). She also can also be found on the Music Maker Label from North Carolina, USA with The Mudcat Band, album Kickin’ Chicken.
Julie started performing & singing at the age of 5 & playing the sax by age 8. She grew up between NY & NJ, & in the southern USA with family & music everywhere: jazz, blues, country, bluegrass, folk, gospel, Broadway, classical, Motown, etc… Julie’s playing credits range from Cyril Neville, Lucky Peterson, Robert Randolph, Derek Trucks, Tinsley Ellis, Jimmy Thackery, Walter Wolfman Washington, Bob Stroger, Tony Allen and so many legendary heros and heroines of the blues from all around the USA. She recently moved to France, after 6 years in Atlanta Georgia touring the USA and Europe, where she married Olivier Mas & started Jersey Julie Band in 2010.
Jersey Julie Band is a “feel-good”, high energy-roller coaster of a band with a wall of sound. An original trio , & you won’t find anything like them anywhere. The musicians in her band give Julie just what she needs; a tight, groovin’, loving & creative band.
Together this trio have created a new feeling & experience in music with original songs, sounds & rhythm. In every concert they deliver a total flow of musical freedom & energy with a major kick. Their style is based around American Roots Music, Blues, Rock n’ Roll, Gospel, Bluegrass, Country, Folk, Funk…
They released the CD Goosebumps in 2012, releasing another CD in 2016 & have been on the road non-stop since 2010.
Jersey Julie playing a growlin’ sweet sax & singing lead vocals or harmony with her powerful, clear, & often “raved about” unique voice. As leader of the band she gives all her love, spontaneity, humor, energy, & generosity to the public while also helping to keep the rhythm; dancing, shuffling, stomping on her own rickety “dancing board” contraption. Olivier Mas grooves on the guitar with a force of solid rhythm & gorgeous, dirty, rockin’ & uplifting solos. He also sings lead vocals & harmony with a sweet yet gruff voice, full of soul & rock. He can make you cry with his sincerity & heart when playing & singing. He compliments Julie’s clear voice in great choir, along with the great harmonies of the piano player. Christian Bénard, on piano & vocals, joined Julie & Olivier on tour in 2010 & throughout the last 5 years he’s become a member of the band & appears on the first CD. He plays on, records, & assistant produces the upcoming album in full capacity. Christian is nothing short of an incredible artist & player & a ‘hell of a lot of fun’. He’s stellar on stage with a rich & deep, mellow, soulful, playful voice & sound. He’s full of energy & sincerity & his spirit of adventure with world-travel transmit directly on the stage in both his performance & charisma. Chris is also a photographer, producer, recording engineer & composer with amazing sensibility. His playing credits, recording history, & concert experience are filled with great musicians, artists, & friends from Mano Chao & family, Jamel Laroussi of P’tit Bonheur, & so many more.
